The Wiki Project

As a part of this class, you will be required to create a page of information that will teach objectives for the sections of our non-existent
text. We are not using a text that you purchase from the bookstore. This saves you money, but will create may come at the expense of your time. As a teacher, I recognize that you could go to Wikipedia and get all of the information you need on any topic we will discuss in class. Believe me, it's my first stop when I begin looking for information. However, part of the learning process is having the ability to take information and synthesize it. You might feel that the information you find on the web is incomplete or segmented. What I am asking you to do as a part of this process is to put the pieces all together based on what you deem is important when you look through the lens of our objectives.

Multimedia

No one likes to look at boring webpages. You will be required to integrate multi-media into your project. This may include, but is not limited to, embedded presentations, movies, animation, and student-created documents.

Images

When you insert images and pictures, you should insert them with their URL.
Do not cut and paste images. All images must have a caption giving proper credit. If you have pictures you have taken, feel free to incorporate your own work! A great resource for pictures is creativecommons.org. Be sure to search for pictures that have the proper license. You are not limited to this license, but your images must be Attribution 3.0 at a minimum.

Citations

Any information that is not your original thought must be cited with either a link to the website or an APA style citation of a print source. Cite all of your sources and include links to those sources in the "References" section at the bottom of your page. This part of the page should be an anchor (we will discuss this). Basically, this means that every one of your paragraphs should have multiple references (you ARE verifying them aren't you). This aspect is the most important part of the entire project.

Assessment

As a student worried about your GPA, you may be wondering just how you will be assessed on this project. I am able to see every edit made on every page (just as you can) through the "history" tab. If a mistake is made, we can easily revert to an earlier version. But assessment...you will send an email to me every week alerting me to any work you do on the wiki project. You will also be assessed on your presentations. You should use your page as a place to put information you will be using for presentations. My advice to you is to worry about learning something. The grade will take care of itself.
